Farm pick up/ collect open every saturday morning from 11-2….if locally grown chemical free veg is what you want on your plate than call to green home farm every saturday 11-2…. call early and have pick of the crop!! farm shop not open at the minute as we are going through the hungry gap… will keep you posted when the farm shop will be open again….. pending on the weather and the growth hopefully another 6-7 weeks…….

its not the song im singing…. is the wind & rain ever goin to stop? improvement in the next few days is needed as things are going to get very serious for the livelyhoods of vegetable growers …. seeds need to be sowen but for the last few weeks with the cold weather the soil was to cold to sow anything and now the wind and the rain is effecting the progress of market garden growers nationwide….. already all growers are behind on the dates they would of orginally given to the supermarkets etc for harvesting…… so heres hoping for a better week next week as it is urgently needed….

Hungry gap!!!!

we at the minute are going through a very common thing known as the hungry gap…. any one out there that has green fingers and a love for getting there hands dirty in the soil will know only to well what im on about……The Hungry gap occurs between the end of march when the stored fresh produce deteriorates and the garden outside can not produce a wide variety of food as there just has not being enough time for it to have matured since the dirty winter frosts…. we see the end of the hungry gap at the beginning of june when the earliest broad beans are ready ..Thank god for the polytunnel i say it helps a great deal through out the hungry gap it can bring early crops forward.. large covered area helps the hardier crops to overwinter in much better condition than if they were outside. another big advantage of a polytunnel makes it possible to harvest a variety of produce such as salad leaves carrots etc….all year round…. Remember timing is everything!!!!
